It takes a long time for a pup to realize they don’t have to rough it out in the elements anymore. A viral clip shared by Chicago foster dad Scott Corbett on his page @4evertails shows exactly how deep those old street habits can run. A gorgeous rescue dog named Dandelion recently stepped into a real house for the first time after surviving as a stray. But even though she has a big, plush bed waiting for her, she completely ignores it. Instead, she chooses to crash right on the hardwood floor next to it.

Rescue dog, who was once a stray, still sleeps on the hard floor because old habits die hard

The video shows Dandelion’s very first morning away from the shelter. Scott Corbett opens her crate door, and she steps out with a totally neutral expression. Street dogs often keep their guards up until they know they are completely safe, so this reaction is normal. But she drops into a big stretch in the living room before politely letting her foster dad slip on her harness.

Then they head outside for a quick walk so she can sniff the grass, and then it is right back inside for a quick paw wipedown. Next up is lunchtime, which Scott serves in a slow-feeding bowl. Dandelion watches the kitchen prep with curiosity and then digs right in when Scott places the bowl on the floor.

She is currently dealing with a bit of a cold, so her new caregiver gently cleans her snotty nose with a tissue. Later, she wags her tail when he leans down for a kiss to the top of her head. And even though this sweet rescue dog rests her head against her actual plush bed, her body stays firmly on the blanket on the floor because her inner stray isn’t quite used to the luxury yet.

She ends up passing out for a solid three hours, twitching her nose and eyes as she finally rests deeply. And when she woke up, another mandatory big stretch was in order. Later that evening, she officially made herself at home by jumping onto the couch and peeping at the camera in the dim light. The adorable video grabbed over 50.8K likes in less than 24 hours.
