While Luna’s family spent the morning looking for her, the missing dog was stuck somewhere they probably never would have thought to check first. Luna was stuck in a Colorado golf course pond and couldn’t find a way back onto land. By the time officers reached her, she was soaked, tired, and pressed against the water’s edge, trying to stay afloat. The bodycam footage shared by the Westminster Police Department follows the rescue step by step and shows how officers carefully worked to get Luna out safely.

According to information shared by the Westminster Police Department and reported by People, Luna ended up in a deep pond at Hyland Hills Golf Course in Westminster, Colorado. This was after she got out through a gate near her family’s yard.

When officers arrived on May 19, they found the frightened dog clinging to the side of the pond. It was clear she’d been struggling there for a while. She was even ignoring the treats the officers were using to lure her closer to them.

The officers moved slowly around Luna and kept their voices calm as they worked. At one point, Officer Wood can be heard encouraging Luna with a simple, “That’s a good girl,” as they worked to bring her closer. The officers stayed patient, talking to her throughout the rescue as they prepared to pull her from the pond. A leash and a towel ended up doing the trick, helping officers guide Luna back onto shore.

Once her paws touched dry ground, Luna looked noticeably more relaxed. People reported that Luna’s family had been actively searching for her when the officers found her. The golf course pond wasn’t far from Luna’s home, which made the whole situation even more surprising.

And after what must have been a stressful day for everyone involved, Luna made it home safely. The Instagram video of the dog’s rescue has already drawn hundreds of likes. With one viewer commenting, “Poor baby looked so scared. Thank you officers for helping the poor pup & all you do.” Truly.
